Job purpose
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating construction activities at site to ensure that the works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project procedures, quality requirements, and the agreed project schedule.
Key responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate day-to-day construction activities across assigned work areas and disciplines.
Ensure construction activities are performed in accordance with approved IFC drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
Coordinate with contractors/subcontractors, engineering, QA/QC, HSE, planning, commissioning, and other project teams.
Monitor construction progress against the approved schedule and identify delays, constraints, and potential recovery actions.
Review contractors' construction plans, work fronts, manpower deployment, equipment, and resource requirements.
Ensure availability of approved drawings, materials, equipment, permits, and access before commencement of activities.
Conduct regular site inspections and ensure compliance with project HSE requirements and safe working practices.
Participate in toolbox talks, site coordination meetings, progress meetings, constructability reviews, and risk assessments as required.
Monitor contractor productivity and recommend measures to improve construction performance.
Coordinate interfaces between civil, structural, mechanical, piping, E&I, and other disciplines.
Identify and resolve site construction issues in coordination with engineering and relevant stakeholders.
Ensure proper implementation of QA/QC requirements and support resolution of NCRs, punch items, and site technical queries.
Monitor completion of systems/subsystems and coordinate construction handover to pre-commissioning and commissioning teams.
Support mechanical completion, punch-list clearance, system turnover, and final project handover.
Maintain appropriate construction records and provide daily/weekly progress and status reports to project management.
Ensure contractors comply with contractual requirements, approved procedures, and project specifications.
Qualifications & experience
A bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum of fifteen (15+) years (12 years for UAE Nationals) of relevant experience in the oil & gas or petrochemical industry, including minimum five (5) years in GCC region.
Must have at least five (5) years of experience in a similar position in mega oil & gas or petrochemical projects.
Significant experience in site construction supervision and contractor management.
EPC/PMC experience on large-scale projects is required.
Experience in ADNOC or similar major operator projects is required.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, HSE requirements, quality requirements, and project execution practices.
Good understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, construction schedules, and commissioning interfaces.
Strong leadership, coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple contractors and construction work fronts in a challenging site environment.
