The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, and biliary tract. The consultant gastroenterologist will provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care, perform advanced endoscopic procedures, and collaborate with other specialists to ensure the highest standards of patient care. Key responsibilities Diagnose and manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and biliary disorders. Conduct comprehensive outpatient consultations and provide inpatient gastroenterology services. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. Perform advanced endoscopic procedures within the scope of clinical privileges, including polypectomy, endoscopic hemostasis, dilation, PEG insertion, and ERCP (if credentialed). Manage conditions including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastrointestinal bleeding, liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, pancreatitis, colorectal diseases, and gastrointestinal malignancies. Interpret laboratory investigations, pathology reports, imaging studies, and endoscopic findings. Develop individualized treatment plans and provide preventive care, including colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. Collaborate with surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, hepatologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals. Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care. Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with hospital policies and Oman Ministry of Health regulations. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education (CME). Supervise junior physicians, residents, and allied healthcare professionals. Participate in emergency and on-call duties as required. Requirements Qualifications MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution. MD/DNB in internal medicine or equivalent. DM/DNB/fellowship/CCT/board certification in gastroenterology. Valid Oman license or eligibility for licensure. Minimum 5-8 years of post-specialty experience, including experience as a consultant gastroenterologist. Expertise in advanced endoscopy, ERCP, EUS, or hepatology is an added advantage. Required skills Expertise in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders. Proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and patient counseling abilities.
