Job description
The secondary English teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality English lessons in accordance with the British Curriculum, enabling students to develop strong skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary and literary analysis.
Key responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging English lessons for secondary students in line with the British Curriculum.
Teach English language and English literature, as appropriate to the school's Key Stage and examination specifications.
Develop students' reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Teach a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama and literary texts.
Prepare students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level or other relevant British examinations, where applicable.
Develop students' analytical, critical-thinking, creative-writing and communication skills.
Plan lessons with clear learning objectives, appropriate challenge and measurable outcomes.
Differentiate learning activities and resources to meet the needs of students with different abilities, including high-achieving students and students requiring additional support.
Use a range of teaching strategies to promote active participation, independent learning and student engagement.
Regularly assess students' progress through formative and summative assessment.
Provide constructive and timely feedback that helps students improve their work.
Maintain accurate records of student attainment, progress and assessment.
Use assessment data to identify learning gaps and adapt teaching accordingly.
Establish high expectations for behaviour, effort, academic achievement and personal development.
