The role requires a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience, with 5 to 8 years preferred. Key experience areas include industrial electrical design, water, energy, or renewable energy projects, and a good working knowledge of industrial electrical supply and distribution, instrumentation, control, and automation. Experience with design documentation, reports, and specifications is essential, along with strong communication and client engagement skills. Project management, specific design experience (earthing, substation, transmission lines), Owner's Engineer experience, and professional registration (CPEng) are advantageous.

GHD is actively seeking a highly motivated and skilled Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our team in Auckland, Christchurch or Wellington. 

In this role, you will contribute to project delivery, including design from concept through to detailed design, and provide technical advisory support to industrial and renewable power clients across wind, solar, large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hydroelectricity. 

The role:

  • Design and deliver all aspects of projects across feasibility, concept, reference, detailed design, construction, commissioning and post-construction phases. 
  • Manage several projects or assignments concurrently and determine priorities. 
  • Assist senior engineers with business development, client engagement, and building and maintaining relationships with industrial and renewable power clients. 
  • Contribute to projects across energy, renewable energy, water and industrial sectors, with a primary focus on New Zealand and the Pacific region. 
  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, with opportunities to support Australian and wider APAC delivery. 
  • Support the preparation of proposals and bids for projects. 
  • Prepare technical reports, design documentation and specifications in line with GHD and client requirements. 

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ electrical engineering experience, with 5 to 8 years preferred. 
  • Industrial electrical design experience. 
  • Experience in water, energy or renewable energy projects. 
  • Good working knowledge of industrial electrical supply and distribution, instrumentation, control and automation. 
  • Experience with PowerCAD, PTW, AutoCAD electrical and Powerfactory is preferred. 
  • Experience preparing design documentation, reports and specifications. 
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Client engagement and stakeholder management capability. 
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outcomes. 
  • Project management experience would be advantageous. 
  • Earthing and bonding, substation or transmission line design experience would be advantageous. 
  • Owner’s Engineer experience would be advantageous. 
  • CPEng or actively working towards professional registration is preferred.
