The Principal Engineer – Grid Modeling and Compliance will lead power system modeling activities to ensure compliance with various grid codes for data center infrastructure. This role involves executing high-quality EMT models and studies for utility-interconnected and islanded data centers. Key responsibilities include performing various power system studies, developing and tuning models with OEMs, producing technical reports, serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PSCAD modeling and transmission grid reliability, attending industry meetings, staying updated on market changes and regulatory requirements, supporting interconnection model development, and contributing to research and innovation.

Requirements
The role requires 10+ years of experience in power system modeling and analysis, a Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus, and 5+ years of recent experience developing PSCAD models for utility interconnections. Experience with additional tools like PSS/E, RSCAD, DIgSILENT, or PowerFactory is preferred, along with working knowledge of relevant industry standards and experience with generator, load, equipment, and inverter-based resource models, including CHIL testing.

Key Responsibilities
Perform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), power quality (harmonic, and flicker ), energization, etc.
Assist in developing and tuning models in collaboration with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to achieve desired performance requirement established in grid codes.
Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations and translate for an executive audience.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PSCAD modeling and special studies.
Serve as a SME for transmission grid reliability, modeling and compliance.
Actively attend industry large load stakeholder meetingsand drive proactive changes.
Stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of NERC, FERC planning procedures, policy changes and developments.
Support interconnection model development and review of utility commissioned technical deliverables.
Maintain up to date knowledge of NERC standards related to grid modeling.
Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities.
Support CHIL testing of BESS, Fuel cells, or any onsite generation technologies
