About Harmattan AIHarmattan AI is a defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems for allied forces.The company emphasizes real-world impact, technical excellence, ownership, rigor, and execution in a demanding environment.Role OverviewThe Forward Deployed Software Engineer writes code and works directly with partner technical teams and end users.The role covers architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, field use, and integration of proven capabilities into the core platform.ResponsibilitiesDesign and build software applications for partner operational problems from architecture through deployment.Turn loosely defined requirements from partner militaries and organizations into working software on tight timelines.Build interfaces and connectors between company platforms and partner systems, then validate field data flows end to end.Deploy solutions on site, gather operator feedback, and iterate quickly based on real-world performance.Identify reusable capabilities and work with platform engineering to integrate them into the core product.Debug live operational issues, resolve them, and document lessons learned.Build relationships with client technical teams and end users to understand their problems.Required QualificationsAt least 4 years of experience building and shipping production software in Python and at least one lower-level language: C++, Rust, or Go.Experience taking ambiguous problems through end-to-end system design and deployment.Ability to own design, development, debugging, and deployment on Linux in operational or field conditions.Clear communication with client technical teams and senior stakeholders.Practical approach to ambiguous problems, tight deadlines, and imperfect operating constraints.Frequent domestic and international on-site travel with partners is required.Proficiency in English is mandatory.Preferred QualificationsPrior forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or customer-facing engineering experience.Depth in computer vision, deep learning, mission planning, robotics, or embedded software.Degree from a leading engineering school.
