Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Consultant Neurosurgeon specializing in Functional Neurosurgery to join our multidisciplinary neuroscience team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive evaluation, surgical management, and long-term care for patients with complex neurological disorders requiring functional neurosurgical interventions. The role includes expertise in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), epilepsy surgery, neuromodulation, and other advanced functional neurosurgical procedures, working collaboratively with neurologists, neurophysiologists, neuroradiologists, rehabilitation specialists, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care.Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluate, diagnose, and manage patients requiring functional neurosurgical interventions for movement disorders, epilepsy, chronic pain, spasticity, and other neurological conditions.Perform advanced functional neurosurgical procedures, including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), lesioning procedures, spinal cord stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, and other neuromodulation therapies as appropriate.Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and determine patient suitability for surgical intervention through multidisciplinary case discussions.Collaborate closely with movement disorder neurologists, epileptologists, neurophysiologists, neuroradiologists, and rehabilitation teams to optimize patient outcomes.Perform intraoperative planning, neuronavigation, stereotactic procedures, and image-guided neurosurgical techniques.Provide comprehensive post-operative care, follow-up assessments, and management of surgical outcomes and complications.Participate in multidisciplinary neuroscience clinics, case conferences, tumor boards (where applicable), and departmental meetings.Maintain accurate clinical documentation and operative reports in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.Supervise and mentor junior neurosurgeons, residents, fellows, and medical students.Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance activities, and patient safety programs.Contribute to clinical research, publications, and academic teaching within the department.Participate in on-call neurosurgical services and emergency neurosurgical care as required.Ensure compliance with international standards of neurosurgical practice, infection prevention protocols, and hospital accreditation requirements.QualificationsMedical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.Completion of an accredited Neurosurgery Residency Program.Fellowship training in Functional Neurosurgery, Stereotactic Neurosurgery, or Advanced Neurosurgical Techniques from a recognized international center.Board Certification in Neurosurgery.Eligibility for or possession of DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi) Consultant License or eligibility to obtain one.ExperienceMinimum of 8–10 years of post-specialization clinical experience in neurosurgery, including significant experience in functional neurosurgery.Demonstrated expertise in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), stereotactic neurosurgery, and neuromodulation procedures.Experience managing patients with movement disorders, epilepsy, chronic pain, and other functional neurological conditions.Experience working within multidisciplinary neuroscience teams.Academic, research, and teaching experience is desirable.Skills & CompetenciesAdvanced surgical expertise in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery.Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.Expertise in neuronavigation, stereotactic systems, and image-guided surgical techniques.Excellent operative, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary clinical teams.Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and continuous professional development.Strong leadership, mentoring, and teaching abilities.High ethical standards and patient-centered approach.Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation.Preferred QualificationsFellowship from internationally recognized institutions in North America, Europe, Australia, or equivalents.Experience with advanced neuromodulation technologies and minimally invasive functional neurosurgical procedures.Active involvement in clinical research, peer-reviewed publications, and international neurosurgical societies.Membership or fellowship in recognized neurosurgical organizations.
