Requirements
Requires ITI (Welder) or equivalent technical certification and 3-10 years of experience in heavy fabrication, preferably in LSAW, HSAW, or pressure vessel environments. Must hold or be able to pass a 6G/3G/4G qualification. Familiarity with international third-party inspections is valued.
Description
Core Responsibilities Precision Welding: Perform manual and semi-automatic GMAW (MIG/MAG) on pipe seams, bevels, and attachments (such as lifting lugs or anodes) according to WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).Tack Weld Repair: Execute high-stakes repairs on identified defectsTack Welding: Assist in the initial closing of the O-shape pipe, ensuring the tack weld is strong enough to withstand the mechanical stresses of the internal SAW pass.Parameter Control: Independently set and adjust welding parameters, including voltage, wire feed speed, and gas flow rates to ensure optimal penetration and bead profile.Bevel Preparation: Use grinders and power tools to prepare weld grooves and clean surfaces to prevent porosity and slag inclusions.Visual Inspection: Conduct self-inspections of weld beads for undercut, overlap, and surface cracks before submitting the pipe for final QC. Technical Skill Set Equipment Mastery: Proficiency with industrial power sources Consumable Management: Expert knowledge of filler wires (ER70S-6, ER80S-G, etc.) and shielding gas ratios as per project specifications.Blueprint Literacy: Ability to interpret welding symbols, and ITP (Inspection and Test Plan) documents. Key Qualifications Education: ITI (Welder) or equivalent technical certification.Experience: 3-10 years in heavy fabrication, preferably in an LSAW, HSAW, or pressure vessel environment.Certification: Must hold (or be able to pass) a 6G/3G/4G qualification as per ASME Section IX or APIIndustry Background: Candidates from similar industries are highly valued for their familiarity with international third-party inspections (TPI). Preferred Attributes Mastery of Hot Work Permits, respiratory protection, and flash shielding protocols.Proven track record of low repair rates in a high-volume production environment. Employer-Specific Expectations High-speed, high-efficiency welding while maintaining the structural integrity required for extreme pipeline pressures.
