Requirements
Requires ITI (Mechanical/Technical) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with 3-7 years of experience in pipe mills. Must be Level II certified in UT, RT, MT, and PT (ASNT SNT-TC-1A or ISO 9712). Familiarity with API 5L, DNV, ASME Section V, and SAP QM module is essential. A radiation safety certificate is mandatory for RT roles.
Description
Core ResponsibilitiesUltrasonic Testing (UT): Perform manual and semi-automated UT on the longitudinal weld seam and pipe body to detect internal flaws and verify wall thickness as per standardsRadiographic Testing (RT) Support: Assist in X-ray inspections (Film or Digital), including the placement of IQIs (Image Quality Indicators), lead markers, and film/sensor positioning for final weld seam validation.Magnetic Particle (MT) & Dye Penetrant (PT): Execute surface inspections on pipe ends, bevels, and repair areas to identify surface-breaking defects such as laminations or cracks.Equipment Calibration: Conduct daily sensitivity and linearity checks on NDT equipment (e.g., Olympus, Waygate, or Modsonic) using V1/V2 or project-specific calibration blocks.Defect Mapping: Accurately mark defect locations (depth and length) on the pipe surface to guide the grinding and repair welding teams.Reporting: Generate clear, detailed inspection reports and maintain logs in accordance with the project's ITP (Inspection & Test Plan) and ISO 9001 requirements. Technical Skill SetNDT Methods: Must be Level II certified (ASNT SNT-TC-1A or ISO 9712) in UT, RT, MT, and PT.Phased Array (PAUT): In 2025, proficiency in PAUT (Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing) is a significant advantageStandards Knowledge: Familiarity with API 5L, DNV, ASME Section V, and client-specific specs.Digital Proficiency: Ability to log data into SAP (QM Module) or specialized pipe-tracking software for real-time quality monitoring. Key QualificationsEducation: ITI (Mechanical/Technical) or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.Experience: 3-7 years of hands-on experience in an LSAW, HSAW, or Seamless pipe mill.Industry Background: Candidates from similar industries are highly valued for their familiarity with third-party inspections.Preferred Attributes (Aramco & Global Standards) For Middle East roles, holding a valid Saudi Aramco NDT Approval or having passed a recent Aramco CBT (Computer Based Test) is highly preferred.Radiation Safety: For RT roles, a valid BARC/RSO certificate (India) or regional equivalent for radiation safety is mandatory.Integrity: Absolute honesty in reporting; understanding that an overlooked defect can lead to catastrophic pipeline failure.
