Job title: Process commissioning superintendent – offshore water injection project
KBR Abu Dhabi is currently seeking an experienced process commissioning superintendent to join its PMC team supporting a major offshore project in the UAE. The role will initially be based in Abu Dhabi, transitioning subsequently to the fabrication yard, and later mobilizing to the offshore site during the execution and commissioning phases.
Job purpose
The process commissioning superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all process commissioning activities associated with the offshore water injection project. The role ensures safe and efficient pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, performance testing, and handover of water injection facilities, while maintaining compliance with ADNOC requirements, project specifications, and international industry standards.
The position serves as the focal point between engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and client teams to ensure successful project completion and facility readiness for operation.
Key responsibilities
Commissioning management
Lead and manage all process commissioning activities from mechanical completion through startup and handover.
Develop and implement commissioning execution plans, procedures, and schedules.
Coordinate commissioning activities with engineering, construction, vendors, and operations teams.
Ensure commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently, and within project timelines.
Monitor commissioning progress and report status to project management and client representatives.
Pre-commissioning activities
Oversee system walkdowns and punch list management.
Ensure mechanical completion certificates (MCC) are achieved prior to commissioning.
Coordinate activities including:
Hydrotesting
Flushing and cleaning
Air blowing
Chemical cleaning
Leak testing
Drying and preservation
Verify system readiness for energization and process commissioning.
Process commissioning & startup
Lead commissioning and startup of:
Water injection systems
Produced water treatment facilities
Chemical injection systems
Utility systems
Filtration and pumping packages
Verify process control systems and operational functionality.
Coordinate startup sequences and operational readiness activities.
Monitor plant performance during initial operation and stabilization.
Troubleshoot process and operational issues during startup.
Brownfield & offshore integration
Coordinate commissioning of brownfield modifications and tie-ins.
Support shutdown planning and system integration activities.
Ensure safe execution of commissioning activities within operating offshore facilities.
Manage SIMOPS interfaces between commissioning and operations teams.
Minimize disruption to existing production operations.
HSE & process safety
Ensure strict compliance with commissioning HSE procedures.
Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIMOPS, and PSSR activities.
Lead commissioning risk assessments and job safety analyses (JSA).
Verify safety critical elements (SCEs) are functional prior to startup.
Ensure emergency shutdown (ESD), fire & gas, and safeguarding systems are fully operational.
Promote a strong process safety culture throughout commissioning activities.
Operations readiness & handover
Coordinate with operations teams to ensure readiness for facility acceptance.
Develop and execute operational readiness plans.
Support operator training and competency assessments.
Ensure completion of commissioning dossiers and turnover packages.
Manage final system handover to operations.
Vendor & contractor coordination
Coordinate vendor specialists during equipment commissioning and startup.
Supervise contractor commissioning teams.
Resolve technical and operational issues with equipment suppliers.
Ensure vendor recommendations are incorporated during commissioning.
Documentation & reporting
Prepare and review:
Commissioning procedures
Startup procedures
System completion reports
Performance test reports
Operational acceptance documentation
Maintain commissioning records and databases.
Provide regular commissioning progress reports and KPI updates.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline.
Commissioning certifications or specialized training in oil & gas commissioning are advantageous.
Process safety management (PSM) training preferred.
Experience
18+ years of oil & gas industry experience.
Minimum 8 years in commissioning and startup leadership roles.
Extensive offshore EPC commissioning experience.
Strong background in offshore water injection systems and brownfield projects.
Proven experience managing commissioning teams during offshore facility startups.
Experience with ADNOC offshore projects highly preferred.
Previous involvement in FEED, engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
