The ideal candidate will have environmental engineering, science, or similar qualifications, along with significant experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies. A strong focus on business development, client service, and delivery is essential, as are strong organizational, problem-solving, and adaptability skills. Excellent writing, presentation, interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills are also required. Experience across carbon management and climate risk advisory is highly regarded, and Category 2 Registered Greenhouse and Energy Auditor status is an advantage.

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a talented and motivated Technical Director – Sustainability to join our growing Sustainability Advisory team within GHD Business Advisory.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a senior technical role, helping to grow our Sustainability Advisory offering and identify new opportunities across GHD’s five sectors: Water, Transportation, Property & Buildings, Environment, and Energy & Resources.
You will work closely with clients to help them manage regulatory obligations and climate risks, drawing on GHD’s experience and global network to address complex sustainability challenges.
Location is flexible and the role can reside in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth.
 
Working with a high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
  • Leading the development and delivery of sustainability strategies and plans
  • Managing and delivering complex, engaging projects for a diverse client base
  • Building and strengthening client relationships across existing accounts and new growth areas
  • Identifying new opportunities, developing proposals and converting them into successful outcomes
  • Contributing to high-performing teams and supporting GHD’s strategic direction through delivery excellence
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced team members, supporting their growth and capability
  • Representing GHD at key conferences and events to build our brand and position us for future opportunities
 
What would you bring to the team?
  • Environmental engineering, science or similar qualifications, or relevant transferable skills
  • Significant experience developing and implementing sustainability strategies in key markets GHD is involved with.
  • A strong focus on business development, client service and delivery
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and adaptability skills
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills for varied audiences and formats
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Sound judgement and decisiveness
  • Category 2 Registered Greenhouse and Energy Auditor status or working towards this is an advantage
  • Experience across both carbon management and climate risk advisory will be highly regarded
