Description
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced consultant pediatric intensive care (PICU) to join a leading healthcare facility in Oman. The successful candidate will provide specialized critical care for infants, children, and adolescents with life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. The role involves managing critically ill pediatric patients, leading multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the highest standards of evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Key responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care for critically ill pediatric patients admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
Diagnose, evaluate, and manage life-threatening medical, surgical, neurological, respiratory, and infectious conditions in children.
Perform advanced pediatric resuscitation and stabilization in emergency situations.
Manage mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive medications, and other critical care therapies.
Perform PICU procedures, including endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, lumbar puncture, chest tube insertion, and procedural sedation.
Collaborate with pediatric specialists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and allied healthcare professionals.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and develop individualized treatment plans.
Counsel and communicate effectively with patients' families regarding diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and follow-up care.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and medical records.
Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and continuing medical education (CME).
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, and Oman Ministry of Health regulations.
Participate in on-call duties and emergency critical care coverage as required.

MD, DNB, Arab Board, MRCPCH, fellowship in pediatric intensive care, or equivalent recognized qualification.
Eligibility for or possession of a valid Oman Ministry of Health (MoH) license.
Minimum 5–8 years of post-specialization experience in pediatric intensive care, preferably in a tertiary care hospital.
Certification in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) is preferred.
Strong expertise in pediatric critical care, mechanical ventilation, and emergency stabilization.
Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and high-acuity healthcare environment.
