A production assistant can have many different responsibilities, which puts you in a great position to learn about all of the different departments. You have to be open to anything as a PA and you have to be willing to work hard. If you are a hard-working PA it is more than likely that someone will notice and it will be easier for you to get promoted. The goal is to ensure production gets on smoothly and problem-free.Here are the job functions:Helping prepare the set with lights, props, equipment etc.Setting up the shoot location in a strategic wayAssisting wardrobe, directors, camera people and other crew membersPrinting and distributing paperworkEscort actors, talent, models around the areaConduct crowd control by putting up signs, directing pedestrians away from set, lock down sets etc.Act as a runner distributing messages or items within crew and castPerform administrative workUndertake errands as assignedHandling transport for equipment, talent and crewPreparing and packing itemsMaking sure the set is clean and tidy at all timesGoing on supply runsCalling locations and a variety of suppliersSet out chairs and tables on setCreative direction researchAssisting with creating storyboards/mood boardsNegotiating with suppliersAdding suppliers to databaseContacting potential suppliersCompiling supplier pricingAssisting with project budgetsCoordinating payments to suppliersSupporting with the maintenance of the warehouse and production inventorySolving last minute problemsAssisting with post-production coordinationGetting project feedback from suppliersAssisting suppliers to sign agreementsSkills:Organization/Multitasking: This is probably the number one skill that you have to possess if you want to be a production assistant.
