  1. Strong understanding of MV/LV/HV/EHV protection and control systems, relay coordination and protection system design.

  2. Good knowledge of numerical protection relays from major manufacturers, including SEL, ABB, Siemens, Schneider, GE, Hitachi or equivalent.

  3. Experience in protection system studies, fault analysis, relay coordination and relay setting calculation.

  4. Good understanding of protection schemes for generators, transformers, busbars, transmission lines, feeders, motors and auxiliary systems.

  5. Good understanding of SLD, protection and metering diagrams, SLM&R, schematic diagrams and vendor drawings.

  6. Experience with SAS, SCADA, RTU and IEC 61850-based substation automation systems.

  7. Experience with power plant/substation telecommunication systems, including fiber optic communication, Ethernet networks, PCM/MUX, DDF/MDF, MPLS-TP and communication interfaces.

  8. Experience in reviewing communication architecture, network topology, communication protocols and interfaces with National Grid, NLDC, SCADA/EMS or utility control centers.

  9. Ability to coordinate protection, control, automation and communication interfaces with primary electrical equipment and other disciplines.

  10. Experience in preparing/reviewing BOQ, technical specifications, vendor proposals and project technical documentation.

  11. Ability to quickly assess technical issues, provide recommendations and resolve engineering interface problems.

  12. Good communication and coordination skills to liaise with clients, consultants, OEMs, suppliers, subcontractors and engineering companies.

  13. Well-versed with relevant International Engineering and Construction Codes and Standards, including IEC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC 61850, Saudi Grid/SEC requirements and other applicable utility standards.

Responsible for the execution or bidding work of Open or Combined Cycle Power Station, Seawater Desalination Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Substation, PV Solar, BESS, ICE, Wind Farm, Fuel Oil or Gas, Geothermal Project and Cogeneration Plant.Responsible for the selection and technical specification of Protection, Control, Metering and Telecommunication equipment for assigned projects.As a Protection & Telecom professional, responsible for overseeing key technical issues related to protection, control, substation automation and communication systems, and improving the protection and telecom knowledge and capabilities of department engineers.Responsible for providing recommendations and technical guidance on protection schemes, relay coordination, substation automation and telecommunication requirements for substations and power plants.Review and resolve changes in electrical design and ensure that protection, control and communication systems comply with project requirements, applicable codes, grid codes and regulatory requirements.Responsible for performing or reviewing protection coordination studies, fault analysis and relay setting calculations to determine project protection requirements and relay settings.Responsible for reviewing protection philosophy, protection schemes and functionality of generator, transformer, busbar, feeder, motor and transmission line protection systems.Responsible for reviewing and coordinating SAS, SCADA, RTU, IEC 61850, station bus, process bus and protection communication interfaces.Responsible for reviewing the design and configuration of telecommunication systems, including optical fiber communication, Ethernet networks, FO patching, DDF/MDF, PCM/MUX, MPLS-TP and communication interfaces with the utility/grid control center.Responsible for the clarification and technical evaluation of protection, control, metering and telecommunication equipment during the bidding process.
