Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, Automation, or a related field. 6–10 years of experience as an SCMS engineer with proven design, testing, and commissioning expertise. Strong command of Substation Automation Systems, including communication protocols like IEC 101, IEC 104, IEC 61850, LON, SPA, Modbus. Advanced proficiency with Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA and RTU systems, as well as IEDs. Hands-on experience with engineering tools like MS Office, Visio, IET, ITT, PCM, MiCOM, DIGSI. Solid understanding of substation control logic, interlocking schemes, and power system operational principles. Intermediate knowledge of OT cybersecurity standards and practices. Willingness to travel 20%.
Description
The opportunityAs a Senior Service Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in executing retrofit upgrades, system extensions, and modifications for Substation Automation systems and delivering Service Level Agreement (SLA) programs. You will lead assignments of medium to high complexity, ensuring all project activities are completed efficiently, cost-effectively, and fully aligned with contractual obligations, quality standards, and safety requirements.How You'll Make An ImpactRepresent the Service Engineering function in project and customer meetings, contributing to the development of project execution philosophies and plans, and ensuring their effective implementation.Serve as a key technical interface with customers, ensuring Hitachi Energy is consistently presented as a professional and trusted partner.Execute engineering activities such as design, manufacturing, system integrations, factory testing and support in site implementations in accordance with approved processes to ensure on-time, on-quality, and on-cost delivery.Develop HMI configurations, and system databases according to project specifications.Coordinate with customers and external entities to finalize design concept, documents, acceptance criteria, resolve open items, and complete acceptance testing activities.Prepare project documentation such as Panel Drawings, System Architecture, Signal Lists, Functional Description, Component Configuration Documents, Project schedules, FAT & SAT procedures, Method of Statement (MoS), Risk Assessments (RA), Site Visit Reports, Incident Reports, and Root Cause Analyses (RCA), in coordination with team leads and project managers.Ensure strict compliance with internal processes, external regulations, cybersecurity requirements, and safety protocols.Support continuous improvement by providing structured lessons learned, supporting claims (scope, cost, and time impacts), and enabling product and process enhancements.Contribute to the development of engineering estimates during tendering, helping define work scopes and collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges.Perform system modifications, extensions, and upgrades, including -Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), energization checks, and final system acceptance as required.Manage external partners providing equipment or services, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality requirements.Actively mentor and support colleagues, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.Take initiative to drive innovation, improve engineering solutions, and enhance customer value.Demonstrate Hitachi Energy's core values of Safety and Integrity, taking personal responsibility for safe behavior and ethical decision-making while promoting a strong safety culture within the team and at customer sites.Perform real-time risk and opportunity assessments throughout project execution, identifying potential variations and supporting contract claim preparation.Provide timely reporting of contract issues, quality concerns, scheduling risks, and cost deviations, along with actionable recommendations.Living Hitachi Energy core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.Living Hitachi Energy core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.Your backgroundBachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, Automation, or a related field.6–10 years of experience as an SCMS engineer with proven design, testing, and commissioning expertise.Strong command of Substation Automation Systems, including communication protocols such as IEC 101, IEC 104, IEC 61850, LON, SPA, Modbus, and others.Advanced proficiency with Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA and RTU systems, as well as IEDs from various manufacturers.Hands-on experience with engineering tools like MS Office, Visio, IET, ITT, PCM, MiCOM, DIGSI, and related applications.Solid understanding of substation control logic, interlocking schemes, and power system operational principles.Intermediate knowledge of OT cybersecurity standards, practices, solutions (Firewall, NIDS, WSUS, RADIUS Configuration) and testing methodologies.Willingness to travel 20% to customer sites.Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks and challenges.Proficiency in both spoken & written and English is required.Publication date : 2026-02-24
