Job description
The head of inclusion will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the school's inclusion strategy and provision, ensuring alignment with GEMS Education policies, ADEK requirements, UAE legislation, the school's vision and values, and recognised international best practice in inclusive education.
The role will promote a whole-school culture in which inclusion is embedded within teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum, pastoral care, safeguarding and student wellbeing.
Job scope
The head of inclusion will:
Lead and manage the school's inclusion department and provision across all relevant phases.
Develop, implement and regularly review the school's inclusion strategy and inclusion policy.
Ensure inclusive education is embedded across the whole school rather than being limited to the inclusion department.
Coordinate the identification, assessment, referral, support and monitoring of students with additional learning needs.
Oversee the development, implementation and review of documented learning plans (DLPs), individual education plans (IEPs), individual support plans, behaviour support plans, advanced learning plans and other personalised plans, as appropriate.
Lead a graduated/tiered approach to provision, ensuring appropriate universal, targeted and intensive/individualised support.
Ensure appropriate teaching adaptations, curriculum modifications, assessment accommodations and interventions are implemented.
Lead and develop the inclusion team and ensure effective deployment of staffing and resources.
Work closely with teachers, heads of department, phase leaders, pastoral teams, counsellors, admissions and senior leadership.
Maintain effective partnerships with parents, external specialists, therapists, psychologists and other professionals.
Ensure accurate, confidential and up-to-date inclusion records and regulatory documentation.
Support the school in meeting ADEK inspection, reporting and compliance requirements.
Promote student wellbeing, safeguarding, independence, dignity and participation in school life.
Skills description
ADEK qualified candidate
Attested bachelor’s/master's degree in education with equivalency (bachelor's degree in education, special education, psychology, inclusion or a related discipline, valid teaching license)
Valid IELTS or English medium of instruction letter from university
CPD - 60 hours of coursework through local and/or international training providers
At least 2 years of relevant teaching experience
At least one (1) year experience as head of department (e.g. SEN coordinator, head of inclusion, special needs director)
Knowledge of the use of ICT to aid teaching and learning
