The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in the care of newborns, premature infants, critically ill neonates, and high-risk babies, with a commitment to providing safe, evidence-based, and family-centered neonatal care. The successful candidate will work closely with obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, pediatric surgeons, radiologists, and other members of the multidisciplinary neonatal team. Key responsibilities Provide comprehensive medical care to newborns and critically ill neonates. Assess and manage premature and high-risk newborns requiring specialized neonatal care. Provide care for babies admitted to the NICU and neonatal high-dependency units. Manage neonatal respiratory distress, apnea, sepsis, jaundice, feeding difficulties, and other neonatal conditions. Provide appropriate neonatal resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill newborns. Manage infants requiring respiratory support, including non-invasive and invasive ventilation where appropriately trained. Assess and manage newborns with low birth weight, prematurity, and complications associated with early birth. Manage neonatal infections, metabolic disorders, hypoglycemia, electrolyte abnormalities, and other medical conditions. Monitor growth, nutrition, fluid balance, and developmental progress of premature and critically ill infants. Review and interpret laboratory investigations, blood gases, X-rays, ultrasound, and other neonatal diagnostic studies. Coordinate care for newborns with congenital abnormalities and arrange appropriate specialist referrals. Work closely with pediatric surgeons and other specialists for neonates requiring surgical intervention. Provide appropriate management of neonatal emergencies and clinical deterioration. Participate in delivery-room attendance for high-risk deliveries and provide immediate newborn stabilization when required. Provide guidance and counseling to parents regarding the baby's condition, treatment plan, prognosis, and follow-up care. Support breastfeeding, appropriate neonatal nutrition, and developmental care. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential neonatal medical records. Participate in multidisciplinary NICU rounds, case discussions, clinical audits, quality improvement, and patient-safety initiatives. Requirements MBBS, MD, or equivalent recognized medical qualification. Recognized postgraduate qualification in neonatology, neonatal medicine, pediatrics / paediatrics with appropriate neonatal specialization, or an equivalent recognized specialty.
