Description
Job Purpose: The Flying Qualities Engineer is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and optimizing aircraft stability, control, and handling qualities to ensure safe, stable, and predictable flight characteristics. The role involves developing flight dynamics models, conducting simulation and flight test data analyses, supporting certification activities, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the aircraft development process.Key Responsibilities:Conduct stability and control analyses for aircraft across various flight conditions.Assess aircraft handling qualities, control surface effectiveness, and response to external disturbances.Develop and utilize linear and nonlinear flight dynamics simulations and models.Support the development and validation of 6-DoF flight dynamics models.Create and maintain data reduction tools for flying qualities analysis using flight test parameters.Plan, coordinate, and analyze flight test activities to validate aircraft stability and control characteristics.Perform post-flight data reduction and detailed flying qualities assessments.Interpret flight test crew feedback and correlate results with flight test data.Support aircraft development programs with preliminary flying qualities evaluations.Participate in flight test operations, including telemetry monitoring, pre-flight briefings, and post-flight debriefings.Collaborate closely with Aerodynamics, Flight Controls, Weight & Balance, Loads, Performance, Avionics, and Flight Test Engineering teams.Ensure compliance with applicable certification requirements and airworthiness regulations.Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, certification evidence, and test analyses.Support certification activities and interactions with regulatory authorities when required.Qualifications & Education:Bachelor's or Graduate Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline.Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant aerospace engineering discipline within an Aircraft OEM environment.Experience across the full aircraft development lifecycle, including conceptual design, preliminary design, development, flight testing, and certification.Direct experience in Aircraft Stability & Control and Flying Qualities Engineering.Strong background in flight dynamics, aircraft simulations, and flight test data analysis.Experience with flight test post-processing and data reduction methodologies.Practical experience with Parameter Identification (PID) techniques applied to aerodynamics and flight dynamics.Familiarity with aircraft flight manuals and handling qualities evaluations.Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Origin Pro/Origin Lab.Strong knowledge of MIL-F-8785C and MIL-STD-1797A standards.Experience with EASA/FAA Part 23 or Part 25 certification programs and/or Military Standards.Previous involvement in certification compliance demonstrations and interactions with certification authorities is considered an advantage.
