Job purpose
Implement the radioactive waste management process for solid radioactive waste and clearance level waste aligned with waste minimization and waste disposal criteria as per the regulatory requirements for predisposal management of radioactive waste.
Key activities, responsibility & accountability
Activity: Radioactive waste management
Responsibilities and accountabilities:
Execute radioactive waste minimization efforts to minimize radioactive waste and associated costs.
Control hazardous substances in radiologically controlled area (RCA) for radioactive waste management to comply with the radioactive waste disposal criteria.
Control and dispose of clearance level waste to minimize radioactive waste in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Examine and monitor spent filters to ensure compliance with the predisposal management requirements for radioactive waste.
Operate scaling factor program of radioactive waste to evaluate radioactive inventory of waste.
Control transportation of radioactive waste on site to store radioactive waste properly in compliance with predisposal management requirements.
Monitor low and medium level radioactive waste interim building (LMRWIB) and radioactive waste packages stored in LMRWIB to ensure regulatory compliance.
Support the implementation of inventory management activities of radioactive waste treatment equipment and expendables to enable efficient waste management operations.
Support operation of radioactive waste management committee to facilitate efficient and effective committee operation.
Conduct radioactive material packaging and control to ensure safe operations at the plant:
- Handle, ship, manage, and dispose radwaste.
- Maintain radwaste treatment equipment and expendables.
Staff training and qualification
Responsibilities and accountabilities:
Follow identified training needs to develop and enhance necessary technical knowledge and skills.
Provide training feedback on program effectiveness with evaluation of operator performance to enable improvement in training programs.
Endorse strong As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles and waste minimization to support plant objectives.
