Job DescriptionAbout the role GEMS School of Research & Innovation is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and safety-conscious Design & Technology (DT) Technician to join our team.The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the delivery of an engaging and practical DT curriculum. You will work closely with teachers and students to ensure workshops are well prepared, equipment is maintained, resources are available and all practical activities are carried out safely.This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a workshop environment, has good technical skills and takes pride in maintaining high standards of organisation and safety.You will contribute to GEMS SRI's mission to provide authentic, inquiry-based learning experiences by ensuring that our digital systems are robust, efficient, and forward-looking.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and set up materials, tools and equipment for practical DT lessons.Support teachers and students during practical sessions, ensuring tools and machinery are used safely.Maintain and regularly check workshop tools, machinery and equipment to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.Carry out safety checks, risk assessments and maintain appropriate records.Manage DT resources and stock, including monitoring inventory and ordering materials when required.Ensure materials, tools and equipment are stored safely and appropriately.Maintain clean, organised and well-presented workshops, preparation rooms and storage areas.Provide basic technical repairs, fabrication and practical support where required.Assist with DT displays, exhibitions, projects and school events.Identify and report equipment faults, hazards or incidents promptly.Support the department in maintaining high standards of workshop readiness and organisation.Safeguarding & ComplianceThe successful candidate will:Follow all GEMS safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.Ensure practical activities meet school, KHDA and GEMS health and safety requirements.Maintain appropriate supervision and safety standards when working with students.Handle tools, machinery and materials responsibly and safely.Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.Skills DescriptionRequirements:We are looking for someone who:BA Degree in Design or related field Has practical experience in a workshop, DT, engineering, manufacturing, construction or similar technical environment.Has good knowledge of tools, machinery, materials and workshop practices.Is confident supporting young people in a practical learning environment.Has a strong understanding of health and safety.Is organised, reliable and able to manage resources effectively.Can work independently while also being a supportive member of the DT team.Has a proactive and positive approach to problem-solving.Takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and well-organised working environment.
