Position summary
The Team Lead – Inventory Control is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing daily inventory control activities across the retail operation. The role will lead the Inventory Control team in barcode scanning, bin completion, stock verification, and inventory accuracy activities using PDT/scanning devices. The Team Lead will ensure that daily targets are achieved efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance with inventory procedures.
Key responsibilities
1. Inventory planning & execution
Allocate assigned bins, areas, and tasks among team members to ensure efficient workflow.
Monitor and execute daily scanning activities as per the approved plan.
Ensure assigned bins and inventory tasks are completed within defined timelines.
2. Team supervision
Lead and supervise Inventory Control Assistants during daily operations.
Brief the team on daily targets, priorities, processes, and operational requirements.
Monitor individual and team productivity and ensure targets are consistently achieved.
Provide on-the-job guidance and support to team members on scanning, counting, and inventory procedures.
Ensure team members follow the correct processes and maintain discipline and productivity.
3. Scanning & bin management
Oversee barcode scanning of merchandise using PDT/RF scanning devices.
Ensure all assigned bins are completed accurately and systematically.
Monitor scanning progress and identify delays, incomplete bins, or operational bottlenecks.
Conduct random checks to ensure items are correctly scanned, counted, and recorded.
Ensure misplaced, damaged, unidentified, or duplicate items are appropriately reported and addressed.
4. Inventory accuracy & reconciliation
Monitor inventory accuracy and investigate discrepancies identified during scanning and stock counts.
Coordinate recounts and verification activities where required.
Ensure discrepancies are documented and escalated to the relevant supervisor/manager.
5. Productivity & performance management
Track daily team performance against scanning, bin completion, accuracy, and productivity targets.
Prepare and maintain daily operational reports and productivity updates.
Identify performance gaps and take corrective action in coordination with the supervisor/manager.
Ensure productivity of scanning targets are achieved without compromising inventory accuracy.
6. Retail operations coordination
Coordinate with Retail Store Manager/In-Charge, Stockroom, and other relevant teams to ensure smooth inventory activities.
7. PDT & system management
Ensure team members correctly use PDT/RF scanning devices.
Report system, device, barcode, or technical issues that may impact operations.
Ensure accurate system updates and adherence to defined inventory control processes.
8. Compliance & safety
Ensure compliance with company inventory procedures, SOPs, and retail operational guidelines.
Promote safe handling of merchandise and equipment.
Maintain an organized and safe working environment.
Ensure proper handling of inventory to minimize stock loss, damage, and discrepancies.
Qualifications & experience
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Retail Management, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
2–4 years of experience in inventory control, stock management, warehouse operations, or retail operations.
Previous retail experience is preferred, particularly within large-scale retail, fashion, lifestyle, FMCG, or multi-store environments.
Prior experience supervising or leading a team is preferred.
Experience with PDT, RF scanners, barcode scanning, or inventory management systems is an advantage.
