Job description
We are seeking a qualified and experienced junior consultant – intensive care medicine to join our government healthcare facility in the UAE.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality critical care to adult patients with life-threatening and complex medical conditions. The role involves assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and management of critically ill patients, as well as collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and evidence-based care.
Key responsibilities
Assess, diagnose, stabilize, and manage critically ill patients in the intensive care unit.
Provide comprehensive critical care for patients with respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, renal, infectious, and multisystem conditions.
Manage medical emergencies, sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, and other life-threatening conditions.
Perform and assist with critical care procedures within the approved scope of practice.
Manage mechanical ventilation and other advanced respiratory support.
Monitor hemodynamic status and provide appropriate cardiovascular support.
Participate in resuscitation and emergency response activities.
Collaborate with emergency medicine, anesthesia, surgery, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, infectious disease, and other specialties.
Participate in multidisciplinary ICU rounds and clinical case discussions.
Communicate effectively with patients' families regarding diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and goals of care.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records.
Participate in ICU on-call duties and emergency services.
Support infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
Participate in clinical audits, research, teaching, and continuing medical education.
Supervise and support residents, junior physicians, and other clinical staff as appropriate.
Requirements
MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized and accredited institution.
Completion of an accredited residency or specialist training program in intensive care medicine, critical care medicine, anesthesiology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or another relevant specialty, as applicable.
Recognized postgraduate qualification in the relevant specialty.
American board certification in critical care medicine or intensive care, or equivalent internationally recognized board certification is highly preferred.
American board doctors preferred.
Minimum 2–3 years of post-specialization clinical experience in intensive or critical care, subject to applicable licensing and credentialing requirements.
Demonstrated experience managing critically ill and high-acuity patients.
Strong knowledge of mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, sepsis management, and critical care protocols.
Experience in airway management and critical care procedures is highly desirable.
Current BLS and ACLS certification; additional certifications such as ATLS or PALS are an advantage depending on the clinical setting.
Strong clinical judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a high-acuity environment.
Strong commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and evidence-based medicine.
Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
