Assistant Physiotherapist (Outpatient Clinic)

Job summary:
The assistant physiotherapist will support the head of physiotherapy in providing safe, effective, and patient-centered rehabilitation services in an outpatient clinic setting. The role involves assisting with patient preparation, implementing prescribed therapy programs, monitoring patient progress, maintaining treatment areas and equipment, and ensuring a positive patient experience.
The assistant physiotherapist works closely with the head of the department to help patients improve mobility, manage pain, recover from injuries, and achieve rehabilitation goals while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.
Key responsibilities
Patient care support
Assist physiotherapists in delivering treatment plans prescribed for patients.
Prepare patients for physiotherapy sessions and explain basic therapy procedures.
Assist patients with exercises under the supervision of the physiotherapist.
Support patients in mobility training, transfers, gait training, and exercise routines.
Monitor patients during treatment sessions and promptly report any concerns or adverse reactions.
Encourage patients to actively participate in their rehabilitation programs.
Provide basic patient education as directed by the physiotherapist.
Clinical operations
Prepare treatment rooms before patient appointments.
Ensure all physiotherapy equipment is cleaned, organized, and functioning properly.
Set up equipment such as:
Exercise machines
TENS units
Ultrasound machines
Hot and cold therapy units
Balance and strengthening equipment
Assist in maintaining adequate stock of clinical supplies and consumables.
Ensure treatment areas meet infection control and safety standards.
Patient assessment support
Assist in collecting basic patient information before assessments.
Record vital signs when required.
Help document treatment attendance and patient progress notes as assigned.
Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with clinic policies.
Administrative duties
Coordinate patient appointments and treatment schedules when required.
Follow up with patients regarding appointments and therapy sessions.
Support the registration and discharge process.
Assist with insurance or documentation requirements as directed.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Safety and quality compliance
Adhere to clinic policies, infection control protocols, and health and safety regulations.
Ensure patients are treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
Report incidents, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns immediately.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
Essential
Diploma or bachelor's degree in physiotherapy or physical therapy.
Physiotherapy assistant certification (where applicable).
Valid healthcare licensing/registration as per local regulatory requirements.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Preferred
DHA eligibility/license.
Experience working in outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, or hospitals.
Experience requirements

Experience assisting with musculoskeletal, orthopedic, neurological, or sports injury rehabilitation preferred.
