Role Summary:The role holder is responsible for executing the various activities pertaining to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and treasury for GMG business units under the guidance of the manager/superiors. The role holder is responsible for executing day today tasks as assigned by the superiors in compliance with the policies and procedures of the GMG group.Key Success Drivers including Accountabilities and Responsibilities: Core Responsibilities:General Ledger 1. Petty Cash Claims -Review and validate Petty Cash claims submitted by employees and business teams.-Verify claims against supporting documents, approvals, business policies and applicable accounting requirements.-Check accuracy of amounts, cost centers, GL accounts, tax codes and other accounting dimensions.-Identify duplicate, incorrect, incomplete or unsupported claims and coordinate with relevant teams for resolution.-Ensure approved claims are accurately recorded in the accounting system within agreed timelines.-Monitor outstanding claims and follow up for timely clearance.2. GL Reconciliation-Perform regular reconciliation of assigned General Ledger accounts with supporting schedules and sub-ledgers.-Investigate and resolve reconciling items, aged balances and unexplained movements.-Ensure open items are appropriately followed up and cleared within defined timelines.-Maintain proper reconciliation documentation and supporting evidence for audit and review purposes.-Identify recurring reconciliation issues and recommend process improvements.3. Month-End Closing-Perform assigned month-end closing activities in accordance with the R2R close calendar.-Review GL balances and accounting entries for completeness and accuracy.-Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, provisions, reclassifications and other routine accounting adjustments as required.-Ensure all relevant transactions are accounted for in the appropriate accounting period.-Support timely closure of books and preparation of management reporting schedules.4. Accounting & Controls-Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with company accounting policies and applicable accounting standards.-Perform accounting checks and validations to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records.-Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls within the R2R process.-Identify control gaps, unusual transactions and accounting discrepancies and escalate them appropriately.-Maintain adequate documentation for internal and external audit requirements.5. Audit & Stakeholder Coordination-Provide supporting schedules, reconciliations and explanations to Internal and External Auditors.-Respond to audit queries relating to assigned accounts and transactions.-Coordinate with Treasury, AP, AR, Payroll, Tax, HR, Operations and other business teams to resolve accounting and reconciliation issues.-Ensure timely follow-up and closure of outstanding audit and accounting queries.6. Process Improvement-Identify opportunities to improve the Petty Cash review and reconciliation process.-Support automation and standardization of repetitive accounting and reconciliation activities.-Maintain process documentation and suggest improvements to strengthen efficiency and controls.Functional/Technical Competencies:• Accuracy and timeliness in general ledger reconciliations.• MS Excel skills• Strong compliance with internal financial controls and procedures.• Efficient coordination across functions for smooth financial operations.• Time management and multitasking ability • Interpersonal skillsEducational Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration, is preferredExperience: • Minimum 2-4 years of relevant experience across the financial accounting functions • Candidates with retail/ FMCG accounting experience will be preferred• Experience with Microsoft dynamics ERP will be an advantage• Knowledge of International accounting Standards (e.g. IFRS) • Knowledge of Accounting systems and software
