Please not the Location for this position is Cairo, EgyptRole PurposeThe Junior Legal & Compliance Associate will form part of the central Legal & Compliance function, supporting Midstar entities across day-to-day legal and compliance matters.The role is intended to provide additional execution capacity within the department, with the successful candidate progressively taking ownership of legal and compliance matters within established parameters, while escalating material, complex or higher-risk matters to senior members of the Legal & Compliance team.Key ResponsibilitiesLegalUndertake first-level review of potential disputes, prepare case summaries and conduct legal research on relevant issues for review by senior members of the Legal & Compliance team.Undertake first-level review and drafting of commercial contracts, agreements, amendments, letters, undertakings, notices and other legal documentation. Identify key contractual and legal issues and prepare proposed comments or amendments for senior Legal review where required. Follow matters through negotiation, execution and completion where assigned.Conduct legal research and prepare concise summaries and initial analysis on legal matters. Assist with maintaining and developing standard contracts, clauses, templates and precedents. Support internal stakeholders on routine contractual queries within established Legal guidance.Provide day-to-day legal support to Midstar entities under the guidance of the Legal & Compliance team. Assist with corporate documentation, authorities, resolutions and other general legal matters as required. ComplianceSupport counterparty onboarding and conduct KYC, sanctions, adverse media and other required compliance screening in accordance with applicable internal policies and procedures of Midstar. Review corporate and KYC documentation for completeness and consistency. Maintain appropriate records and supporting documentation for compliance reviews. Handle clear screening cases within established procedures and delegated authority, and escalate identified sanctions concerns, adverse findings, ownership issues, higher-risk jurisdictions, incomplete information or other compliance red flags or non-standard cases. Support periodic KYC reviews and ongoing monitoring of counterparties. Monitor relevant legal, regulatory and compliance developments and assist with preparing internal updates and guidance. Support the implementation and maintenance of Legal & Compliance policies and procedures. Candidate ProfileEssentialBachelor's degree in law from a recognized university. Approximately 1–3 years post qualification legal experience, whether in-house or in private practice. Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic, with particular emphasis on drafting ability. Previous exposure to KYC, AML, sanctions or counterparty due diligence. Good commercial contract drafting and review skills. Strong legal research and analytical capability. Good attention to detail and ability to maintain organized and reliable records. Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively within deadlines. Practical judgment and ability to recognize when an issue requires escalation. Genuine interest in developing experience across both Legal and Compliance. PreferredExposure to commercial/corporate legal work. Experience in an in-house, international business or commercially oriented law-firm environment.
