KBR Abu Dhabi PMC Team is currently looking to fill a position of Specialist Telecom Engineer for an offshore project to be based in UAE (Abu Dhabi) as soon as the administrative processes are completed, will then relocate to Spain office and then return to Abu Dhabi.
Position summary
The Specialist Telecom Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, integration, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunications systems supporting an offshore water injection project. The role ensures reliable and secure communication infrastructure for offshore platforms, control systems, personnel safety, operational coordination, and emergency response while complying with project specifications, international standards, and company requirements.
Key responsibilities
Telecom engineering & design
Lead telecom engineering activities during FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.
Develop telecom design philosophies, specifications, calculations, and engineering deliverables.
Design and review:
Fiber optic communication networks
Data communication systems
Microwave radio systems
VSAT and satellite communications
Marine and VHF/UHF radio systems
Telephony and IP telephony systems
Public Address and General Alarm (PAGA) systems
Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems
Access Control Systems (ACS)
Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
Time synchronization systems
Wireless communication networks
Offshore water injection facilities support
Ensure telecom systems support offshore water injection operations, process monitoring, and communication between offshore and onshore facilities.
Integrate telecom systems with:
ICSS (Integrated Control and Safety System)
SCADA systems
Process control systems
Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems
Fire and Gas systems
Support real-time operational data transmission and remote monitoring requirements.
Network & cybersecurity
Design secure telecom network architectures.
Ensure compliance with corporate cybersecurity requirements and industrial control system security standards.
Support network segmentation, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies.
Coordinate with cybersecurity teams during project execution.
Project execution
Coordinate telecom engineering activities with process, instrumentation, electrical, automation, and IT disciplines.
Participate in design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL workshops, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.
Review vendor packages and telecom system interfaces.
Support procurement and technical bid evaluations.
Construction & commissioning support
Review installation procedures, cable routing layouts, and telecom equipment locations.
Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and Integrated System Testing (IST).
Support telecom system startup and operational readiness activities.
Operations & maintenance
Support telecom system reliability, availability, and maintainability programs.
Participate in troubleshooting communication and network issues.
Develop maintenance strategies and telecom asset management plans.
Support lifecycle management and future expansion requirements.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
Master's degree is advantageous.
Professional certifications are preferred, such as:
CCNA / CCNP
CompTIA Network+
Cisco Industrial Networking Certifications
Relevant vendor certifications
