We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced consultant cardiothoracic surgeon to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide expert surgical care for patients with complex cardiac, thoracic, and cardiopulmonary conditions. The consultant cardiothoracic surgeon will perform advanced surgical procedures, lead multidisciplinary treatment planning, and ensure the highest standards of patient care in accordance with DOH regulations and international best practices.
Responsibilities
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients requiring cardiothoracic surgical intervention.
Perform a comprehensive range of cardiothoracic procedures, including:
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
Heart valve repair and replacement
Aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection surgery
Surgery for congenital heart defects in adults (where applicable)
Lung resection (lobectomy, segmentectomy, pneumonectomy)
Mediastinal tumor surgery
Pleural and chest wall procedures
Minimally invasive and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), where credentialed
Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and develop individualized surgical treatment plans.
Provide post-operative management, including critical care and follow-up for cardiothoracic surgery patients.
Collaborate closely with cardiologists, pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, oncologists, radiologists, perfusionists, and rehabilitation teams.
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss complex cardiac and thoracic cases.
Ensure adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, surgical quality, and clinical governance standards.
Supervise and mentor specialists, residents, fellows, and surgical trainees.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, and continuing medical education activities.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the hospital's electronic medical record system.
Participate in the departmental on-call rota and provide emergency cardiothoracic surgical services as required.
Requirements
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Completion of an accredited residency in general surgery followed by advanced fellowship or specialty training in cardiothoracic surgery.
Fellowship/CCT/CCST/Arab Board/American Board/Canadian Board or equivalent qualification recognized by DOH for consultant registration.
Eligibility for or possession of a DOH consultant cardiothoracic surgeon license.
Relevant post-qualification experience as per DOH professional qualification requirements.
Valid basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certifications.
