Description
Job description / Role Job Type Full Time Job Location Dubai, UAE Nationality Any Nationality Salary Not Specified Gender Not Specified Arabic Fluency Not Specified Job Function Engineering - Mechanical & Aeronautical Company Industry Construction Comprehensive position overview: Role function: The duct fabricator plays a critical role within the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) and HVAC divisions, converting engineering specifications into structural duct systems required for proper air distribution, ventilation, and climate control across commercial, residential, and industrial facilities. Operational environment: Works primarily within off-site sheet metal workshops, pre-fabrication yards, or dedicated on-site fabrication areas alongside mechanical engineers, quality control inspectors, and assembly teams. Detailed technical responsibilities: Pattern development & material selection: Analyze complex HVAC shop drawings, cut sheets, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) to perform accurate material take-offs. Lay out, stretch, and develop patterns for custom sheet metal fittings—including offset transitions, bullhead tees, square-to-round adapters, and fire damper casings—minimizing material scrap. Select appropriate sheet metal gauges (typically 18 to 26 gauge GI or specialized PI panels) based on system static pressure classifications and airflow parameters. Precision fabrication & assembly procedures: Cut sheet metal accurately using foot shears, hand snips, and automated plasma cutting tables. Form joint edges, standing seams, drive cleats, Pittsburgh locks, and snap locks using specialized roll formers and folder machines. Assemble duct sections securely using spot welding, riveting, self-tapping screws, or specialized mechanical clinching techniques. Insulation & cladding application: Measure, cut, and apply internal or external insulation materials, including fiberglass insulation board, elastomeric rubber (nitrile), and rockwool. Secure insulation with mechanical fasteners, stick pins, and high-performance spray adhesives, applying aluminum foil vapor barrier tape to guarantee airtight thermal protection. Fabricate weather-proof metal cladding (Alu-Zinc or aluminum) for external, rooftop ductwork installations exposed to extreme desert conditions. Quality standards & testing protocols: Verify cross-sectional dimensions, diagonal alignment, and flatness tolerances before dispatching finished units to the installation crew. Execute light testing and pressure-drop/air-leakage testing per SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association) or DW144 guidelines. Ensure all fabricated assemblies comply with local authority civil defense regulations (e.g., Dubai Civil Defense fire-rated duct requirements). Requirements Formal technical education: Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Certificate, Vocational Trade Diploma, or Technical High School Certificate specializing in sheet metal working, mechanical trade, or fitting. Demonstrated technical expertise: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of verified experience in high-volume HVAC duct production within the UAE or wider GCC region. Practical knowledge of sheet metal bend allowances, stretch-outs, and seam allowances. Familiarity with SMACNA, DW144, ASHRAE, and Dubai Municipality green building code specifications. Soft skills & operational attributes: Strong spatial reasoning skills to visualize 3D objects from 2D orthographic engineering plans. Strict commitment to occupational health and safety (HSE) standards, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as cut-resistant gloves, ear protection, and safety boots. Ability to perform physical labor involving heavy lifting, extended standing, and operating vibrating machinery. Benefits Competitive salary; Official UAE employment status; Comprehensive medical insurance coverage; Working schedule 6 days per week from Monday to Saturday and Sunday is off. Apply Now
