Job summary
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced consultant pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist to join a leading tertiary care hospital in the UAE. The successful candidate will provide specialized anesthesia care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing congenital and acquired cardiac surgical procedures, as well as cardiac catheterization and other interventional cardiology procedures. The consultant will work closely with pediatric cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, intensivists, perfusionists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Key responsibilities
Provide comprehensive perioperative anesthesia care for pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
Administer anesthesia for neonatal, infant, pediatric, and adolescent patients with congenital and acquired heart diseases.
Manage anesthesia for pediatric cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, hybrid cardiac procedures, and transcatheter interventions.
Perform detailed pre-anesthetic evaluations, risk assessments, and optimization of cardiac patients.
Utilize advanced intraoperative monitoring techniques, including invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
Perform and interpret perioperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), where credentialed.
Manage cardiopulmonary bypass-related anesthetic care in collaboration with cardiac surgeons and perfusionists.
Provide postoperative care, pain management, and ICU handover for pediatric cardiac surgical patients.
Respond promptly to pediatric cardiac emergencies requiring anesthesia support.
Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
Supervise and mentor junior anesthesiologists, residents, fellows, and anesthesia staff.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies and international patient safety standards.
Participate in teaching, research, continuing medical education (CME) activities, and departmental development programs.
Qualifications & requirements
MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by the relevant UAE health authority.
Completion of an accredited residency in anesthesiology.
Fellowship or subspecialty training in pediatric cardiac anesthesia or pediatric anesthesiology with significant pediatric cardiac anesthesia experience.
Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification recognized under the UAE professional qualification requirements (PQR).
Eligibility for or possession of a DHA, DOH, or MOHAP consultant license.
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of post-board/fellowship experience as a consultant pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist (or as required by UAE licensing regulations).
Extensive experience managing anesthesia for congenital heart surgery in neonates, infants, and children.
Experience in pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratories and hybrid cardiac procedures.
Experience in internationally accredited tertiary or quaternary pediatric cardiac centers is highly desirable.
Demonstrated expertise in managing complex congenital cardiac cases and critically ill pediatric patients.
Skills & competencies
